Glaze Mixing & Studio Fundamentals
Ready to start mixing your own glazes?
This hands-on, three-part workshop is designed for potters who are comfortable working with ceramics and want to build confidence mixing, testing, and maintaining their own glazes.
We'll explore the practical fundamentals of glaze mixing, from understanding raw materials and following recipes to measuring specific gravity, preparing test batches, and troubleshooting common glaze issues.
You'll learn how to approach glaze testing systematically, document your results, and better understand the relationship between glaze application, clay bodies, and kiln firing.
Across three sessions, we'll mix and test small batches of glaze, prepare test tiles, and review the fired results together.
This course focuses on practical studio skills rather than advanced glaze chemistry or developing original recipes from scratch.
